Treatment for Substance Use
Is your alcohol or drug use causing problems in your life? Has your use of alcohol or drugs increased over time? Is your use getting in the way of activities you used to enjoy or your obligations at work, school, or home? Have you had difficulty changing your relationship with alcohol or drugs, despite multiple attempts? Do you find yourself getting irritable, frustrated, or angry after a period of not drinking or using? These are a few indicators that substance use is preventing you from reaching your full potential.
No matter how severe the addiction, recovery is always possible. My approach to addiction treatment is based on the belief that there are many pathways to recovery, and everyone’s recovery journey is unique. For some, recovery means abstaining completely from substances. Those who do not wish to completely stop using may prefer goals related to moderating use or reducing the harms caused by substance use. If you are questioning the role of alcohol or drug use in your life, I would be glad to talk with you about your goals and assist in your recovery process.
Are You Examining Your Relationship with Drugs or Alcohol?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - When engaged in CBT to change a pattern of substance use, clients will gain insight into the thoughts, situations, emotions, and behaviors that are often associated with their substance use and gain a deeper understanding of their relationship with substances. This awareness will then be leveraged to make meaningful, sustainable changes.
Motivational Enhancement Therapy /Motivational Interviewing - If you struggle with maintaining motivation for change, or if you recognize the need to change but don’t know where to start, Motivational Enhancement Therapy can help you to work through uncertainty, connect with your personal reasons for change, and identify a level of substance use that works best for you, whether that is abstinence or moderation.
Mindfulness-Based Therapies - Mindfulness-based approaches to substance use prioritize your goals and values and ask you to consider the impact of values-inconsistent behaviors on your overall wellbeing. You will also explore strategies to increase connection with your personal values and goals.
